Litigation at Scully Scott
Since its founding more than 35 years ago, Scully Scott Murphy & Presser has become well known for its successful patent
prosecution practice. It has an unmatched reputation for delivering value to its clients in procuring strong patents and for delivering
the highest level of client service. Less well known is that Scully Scott has been litigating patent, trademark, trade secret and
copyright disputes throughout its history in a broad range of technical and business environments. The Scully Scott team maintains
the same commitment to value and service in its litigation practice as it does in its prosecution practice. It is proud of its reputation
for being focused on and committed to the aggressive protection and enforcement of intellectual property.
The Scully Scott litigation group views the litigation process as a tool that can be used to achieve a business objective. With its focus
on creating value for its clients, Scully Scott pays sharp attention to achieving desired outcomes within a reasonable budget. Scully
Scott litigators -- from the first-chair partner to the junior associate -- are available to clients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They
return phone calls within the hour. They keep clients aware of all budget issues and include clients in all substantive discussions.
In short, each client is treated like the most important client that the firm has.
Scully Scott has enhanced its litigation practice with the addition of Chad Ziegler and Rich Catania to the partnership. Ziegler has
eleven years of experience in complex patent litigation in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical (including Paragraph IV litigation under
the Hatch-Waxman Act), biomedical device, chemical, computer software and consumer products fields. He has represented many
major companies, including most recently Crown Cork & Seal in a decision of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit published
on March 17, 2009. Prior to joining Scully Scott, Ziegler was a partner at the law firm Woodcock Washburn LLP, in Philadelphia, PA.
Before leaving in 2003 to join Pfizer Inc, Rich Catania was a partner at Scully Scott. At Pfizer he was Senior Corporate Counsel,
where -- in addition to managing various licensing and other transactional matters -- he was involved in a number of Pfizer litigations.
Catania rejoined Scully Scott in 2007 and was made partner in early 2009. He has litigated numerous patent disputes in the chemical,
general mechanical, and biomedical fields.
Ziegler and Catania join a core group of litigation partners at Scully Scott, including Frank DiGiglio, Paul Esatto, Peter Bernstein,
Tom Spinelli, Mark Cohen, Xiaochun Zhu, and Eunhee Park. Together, this team brings a wealth of experience and technical
expertise to the cases Scully Scott litigates.
