Leslie Szivos received a B.S., Chemistry from Kutztown University in 1987 and both a M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemistry from Seton Hall University. He was a 1989 recipient for the National Starch Award and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Dr. Szivos is experienced in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the areas of inorganic chemistry, material science including, for example, semiconductors and superconductors, homogenous and heterogeneous catalysts, polymers, metallurgy, nanotechnology, surfactants and analytical methods and instrumentations. He is the co-author of "An Evaluation of the Single Turnover (STO) Procedure as a Method for the Determination of the Active Site Densities on Dispersed Metal Catalysts." J. Catal., 127:675 (1991).

Hesong Cao Hesong Cao, M.S.

Hesong Cao received his B.S. in Mechanical and Electronic Engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology (China) in July 1999. He further received his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Computer Aided Design and Computer Graphics (CAD/CG) from Beijing Institute of Technology in February 2002. He further received his Master of Intellectual Property from Franklin Pierce Law Center, New Hampshire, in May 2006.

Prior to joining Scully, Scott, Murphy & Presser in September 2006, Mr. Cao worked as an electrical engineer at a subsidiary company of State Grid Corporation of China, from February 2002 to July 2002, and worked as a patent engineer at Liu, Shen & Associates (Beijing), from August 2002 to May 2005. From February 2001 to January 2002, he interned with a subsidiary company of China Unicom, participating in a project of developing interface software in communication system and a project of developing image-processing software in database systems.

Mr. Cao has experience in the preparation and prosecution of domestic patent applications relating to computer aided manufacture and design, power transmission and distribution, printing technology, optical storage systems, display devices, molding technology, endoscopic medical instruments, electrical detecting systems, image-processing technology, machine tools, electrical connectors, and home appliances. He also has experience in Chinese practice including preparation and prosecution of patent applications, and reexamination and invalidation.

Mr. Cao is registered to practice before the USPTO as a Patent Agent with limited recognition.

Edmund Gutierrez received his B.A. in Chemistry from Hunter College in 1990 and a Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry from SUNY at Stony Brook in 1995. Dr. Gutierrez is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Dr. Gutierrez has many years of experience in various industries, including printed circuit board technology, semiconductors, nanotechnology, materials science, and biotechnology. He also has several years of experience as an Adjunct Professor of general and organic chemistry. Dr. Gutierrez's research experience is extensive, and includes nanoparticle design and synthesis, supramolecular assembly, transition metal and main group metal chemistry, metal-ligand chelation chemistry, conjugation and crosslinking chemistry, and separation science.

Before joining Scully Scott, Dr. Gutierrez gained several years of experience working as a Patent Agent in two other New York intellectual property law firms. Some of Dr. Gutierrez's responsibilities included preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the U.S. and worldwide, as well as assistance in providing patentability, validity, and freedom-to-operate analysis.

Dr. Gutierrez's expertise includes organic and inorganic chemistry, nanotechnology, molecular design, nanoparticle chemistry, nanotube technology, supramolecular self-assembly, metal-ligand coordination polymers, materials science, coatings, polymers, ionic liquids, and fuel cells.

BYEONGJU PARK Byeongju Park, Ph.D.
Patent Agent

Byeongju Park received his B.S. in Physics from Seoul National University in 1987 and his M.S. in Physics and Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1988 and 1994 respectively. Dr. Park was a process engineer at Applied Materials between 1994 and 1996. Between 1996 and 2006, he worked on various semiconductor processes and devices at International Business Machines Corporation. Dr. Park is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi.

Dr. Park's expertise areas include solid state physics, semiconductor engineering and material science. He is an inventor on 18 U.S. patents and has published 12 scholarly articles.

John Pyun John Pyun, M.S.
Patent Agent

John Pyun received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Computer Science from Hong-Ik University in 2001. Mr. Pyun also received his M.S. in Computer Engineering from Polytechnic University in 2003. Mr. Pyun also attended a Ph.D. program in Computer Engineering in Northeastern University from 2004-2005. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark office.

Prior to joining Scully Scott Murphy & Presser, Mr. Pyun was an assistant engineer in UTStarcom, where he developed cellular phones for Verizon and Virgin Mobile USA. Mr. Pyun was a patent examiner in USPTO from 2006-2007, where he examined patent applications in Computer Architecture and Input/Output and was also a senior programmer in Accenture Technology Solutions.

Nanae Terazaki Nanae Terazaki, L.L.M.
Patent Agent

Nanae Terazaki received her B.S. in physics from Keio University in Japan in 1991, and L.L.M. in Intellectual Property from University of Washington in 2005. She is a certified Patent Attorney in Japan, registered with the Japan Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA) in 2002. She is also a U.S. Patent Agent with limited recognition.

Ms. Terazaki was an engineer at Sony Corporation in Japan from 1991-2002; and an in-house patent attorney at Panasonic Corporation from 2003-2004; and she worked at several law firms in the U.S. with a focus on patent application prosecution. Ms. Terazaki has experience in both domestic and international patent prosecution and has technical experience in electronics, electrical engineering and computers as well as mechanical arts.

Ms. Terazaki possesses a strong understanding of U.S. and Japanese law related to Intellectual Property and is proficient with both languages. Ms. Terazaki enjoys acting as a liaison between the U.S. and Japan, as well as expressing her creativity by working with inventors.
