A Garden City intellectual property law firm ranked 25th nationally in patents issued in 2012, according to a leading IP publication.

Intellectual Property Magazine also ranked the 1,129 patents Scully, Scott, Murphy & Presser issued to clients in 2012 third among metro New York law firms and first among Long Island firms.

Scully Scott partner Peter Bernstein said the firm was pleased to stand toe-to-toe, patent-wise, with larger New York metro-area firms.

Founded in 1994, IP Today reports on legal issues involving patents, trademarks and copyrights and highlights both cutting-edge technological advancements and their effects on intellectual property law practice.

Its 2013 list of “top patent firms” includes 271 law firms or individual attorneys ranked according to the number of utility patents they helped issue in 2012.

Topping the list is Alexandria, Va., firm Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, which had a hand in 5,767 patents in 2012, according to IP Today.

“We’re very proud to be consistently ranked among the best intellectual property firms in the nation,” Bernstein said. “Our hard work pays great dividends for all of our clients.”
